What is Yerba Mate?

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is a species of the holly family native to the subtropical forests of South America. For over 500 years, indigenous Guaraní communities have consumed it as a ceremonial and medicinal beverage — long before it reached the rest of the world.

Unlike coffee which delivers a single stimulant (caffeine), or green tea which is primarily antioxidants, yerba mate contains 196+ bioactive compounds — a unique combination of caffeine, theobromine, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals that work together. The result is clean, sustained energy with no crash, no jitters, and measurable health benefits backed by peer-reviewed research.

Yerba Mate
Where It Comes From

Born in the Heart of South America

Ilex paraguariensis — the yerba mate plant — refuses to grow anywhere else on earth. It is native to a narrow subtropical belt spanning Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, where the confluence of red iron-rich soil, >1,500 mm annual rainfall, and the specific 15°–30°S latitude belt creates the only conditions under which it thrives.

Our leaf is sourced from Misiones Province, Argentina — the world's single largest yerba mate–producing region, responsible for over 85% of Argentina's entire output. Specifically, we partner with cultivators in the Monte (Forest) Zone, where plants grow under native canopy shade at lower yields — producing leaves with naturally elevated antioxidant concentrations compared to open-field varieties.
